The SCCRS Open Show was held on Sunday 15th July at Kempshott Village Hall near Basingstoke.  Featuring over 40 show classes this show is demanding on both the exhibitors and the show team and with just short of 150 entries most classes were filled with quality rather than quantity.

The level of competition was intense and points were hard won by all the exhibitors. With a smaller number of shows this year all points gained will be important for this year’s SuperBowl competition. Fewer shows means more Diploma classes and the results were fairly evenly spread. Class 1 Barbs was won by the Barbus rhombocellatus of Roy Chapman. Class 5 Killifish was also won by Roy with a very nice Aphanius danfordi. Class 6 Catfish was won by Steve & Debbie Edwards with their Mochokiella Paynei. Class 7 Corydoras was taken by John Egan with a Corydoras trilineatus and Keith Sollitt took the final Diploma class 13 Swordtails with his Xiphophorus montezumae.

Judging Best in Show was a tough challenge but the final selection was the Sawbwa resplendens of Keith Sollitt coming first, Keith also taking second with Xiphophorus xiphidium and John Egan third with his Erythrinus erythrinus.

Final points tally of the day was as follows and these are the current positions in the 2012 SuperBowl –

Roy Chapman
77 points
Steve & Debbie Edwards 59 points
Keith Sollitt
53 points
John Egan 52 points
Heather Gardner 25 points
Peter Quested
16 points
John & Steve Smith
14 points
Mike Mansbridge
4 points
Joe Blair 2 points

Roy Chapman was presented with the engraved glass for Round One of the SuperBowl.

The competition now moves on to the Three Counties Show to be held on Sunday 12th August at Pinewood Park near Crowthorne.

Thanks to all the exhibitors and the show team including the judges Chris Ralph, Tim Chamberlain, Alan Dunne and trainee judge Mats Petersson; executive judge Andy Pearce. Thanks to Judith for her hard work as Show Secretary and Maisie and her helpers in the Pink Elephant Café for keeping us all fed and watered.
