The 2011 Superfins Competition was held at Kempshott Village Hall on Sunday 6th November. Entry to this competition is by invitation only and is limited to winners of Best in Show awards and Diploma class winners during the current year. In theory this could potentially mean a maximum entry of 31 fish. In practice some fish have gained more than one Best in Show award and inevitably exhibitors will select only their best exhibits for this competition there being little or no advantage in bringing more than four entries. This assumes of course that there are exhibitors who have managed to qualify more than four fish. In reality at least three exhibitors managed this accolade in 2011.

A total of fourteen entries were benched and the judging sheet bears evidence to both the high quality and close pointing in this Competition. Only 5.5 points covered the results of all fourteen entries. The winning exhibit was the Leporacanthicus galaxias (white spot) owned by John Egan from Port Talbot Club. This fish has been much admired this season and scored 85.5 points. In second place with 85 points was the Neolamprologus caudopunctatus belonging to Steve & Debbie Edwards again from Port Talbot Club. Third place went to the Crenuclus spilurus of John Egan with 84.5 points. John also took fourth place with his Erythrinus erythrinus scoring 84 points.

Somewhat of a Welsh whitewash but with four more fish tied on 83 points the result was by no means a pre-judged conclusion Special thanks to Chris Ralph, one of our most experienced Senior Judges, who judged the Competition and to Tim Chamberlain for holding the white stick!
